Goma, a wayward Orcish soldier, finds herself in Fairmeadow, a remote pacifist commune thriving in the shadow of a century-long war outside their peaceful valley. She quickly falls into conflict with the commune’s idealistic leader, Sanctuary, a healer and magician with something to hide. When the commune threatens collapse, they are forced to set aside their differences and face their greatest challenge yet: navigating the rapidly changing war-torn world outside that has left each of them wounded, abandoned, betrayed, and let down. Sanctuary and Goma both must reckon with the lives they left when they came to Fairmeadow - and decide what parts of their world may actually be worth fighting for.
